Recreational Classes

Our Recreational IGC Level program was developed to align with both the Canadian Competitive Program (CCP) & Xcel gymnastics programs.

In 2015 Canada adopted the JO Program developed in the USA and adapted it to become the Canadian Competitive Program (CCP) in 2021.  CCP was developed with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The program allows the gymnast to advance at their own pace.

The Xcel program was developed in the USA in 2013 and has been gradually adopted in Canada over the last couple of years. Alberta held it's first Xcel Provincial Championships in 2022. The Xcel program was created as a way to keep gymnasts involved and excited about the sport. The Xcel program is ideal for not only entry-level gymnasts, but also older gymnasts who are looking for a fun way to stay in shape and be involved in the sport.  Our Rec Athletes have the option of competing in our home meets.

Our IGC Level program is a motivational tool that enables athletes, coaches, and parents to monitor progress. It is comprised of 8 levels with two badges per level. It spans Pre-CCP & Xcel levels all the way to Xcel Diamond & CCP 9.

Creating a friendly and stimulating environment, our programs are founded on Gymnastics Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development  Educational Philosophy. Mastering fundamental movement patterns is the focus of our Early Learner levels, mastering fundamental skills on artistic apparatus in our Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced levels, and mastering the identified target skills in Novice & Senior.

Our rec program is divided into several groups: Early Learners, which includes Parent & Tot, Learn & Play and Kinder (for preschoolers), Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Rec, Trampoline, Parkour, Acro & Tumbling and our Homeschool classes. We welcome Jumpstart & KidSport grants.

Xcel Recreational Team

These classes are for the girl who wants a little more than a weekly recreational class, ages 6 & up. The Xcel Program is designed to offer a broad-based, competitive experience outside the Canadian Competitive Program to attract and retain a diverse group of athletes.

The Xcel program believes that every girl should have the opportunity to "play the game" and be part of a team regardless of skill level. Xcel for girls is the next step for a gymnast in the earlier stages of learning gymnastics who is interested in competing in a competition at a recreational level. Our Xcel program is a gentle introduction to competitive gymnastics.

It is ideal for those who have a passion for the sport and are looking for a competitive experience with a minimal time commitment. Gymnastics BC does a fabulous job of explaining the technical requirements of the Xcel program in Canada.

Gymnasts will attend 3-5 competitions around Alberta during the year. Xcel athletes must purchase an IGC leotard to wear to meets. All families are required to sell $100 worth of 50/50 cash raffle tickets per session.

Competitive Program

Our competitive program starts at age 6, with highly dedicated athletes who have proven their talent and determination. These athletes train year-round, with their season starting in July, and wrapping up in June. They train anywhere from 8 hours to 12 hours a week, depending on the level they are competing in.

Imagine Gymnastics Club follows the CCP & Xcel Competitive Programs and currently has 40+ athletes competing in Xcel Bronze through CCP 8! Gymnasts in these programs will attend several meets around Alberta, as well as our own invitational, the Hay City Classic.

Families with athletes in the competitive programs are required to complete additional volunteer and fundraising commitments, depending upon their level and time spent in the gym.

Want to join Team IGC? Every year, our coaches keep an eye out for those athletes that show the promise, grit, positive attitude and determination that we expect from our competitive girls. They are then invited to try out for Team IGC.
